What is Insex.com?
Insex.com is, to this day, considered one of the most extreme BDSM and sadomasochistic adult entertainment sites ever online. It has since been shuttered due to lawsuits from the US government, but much of the content can still be found online in various places.
Location, year of establishment, owner & history
From 1997 to 2005, the site was operated by former Carnegie Mellon professor Brent Scott has over 500 movies attributed to it. As pressure from the US Government and conservative obscenity laws became more widely enforced, pressure was put on the credit card processing companies that serviced Insex’s members. Eventually, they were no longer able to accept payments and announced their catalog was for sale. This saw many famous performers, riggers, and Pro Dommes leave for competitor Kink.com, which contributed to it’s eventual and current domination of the online BDSM market. The remains of Insex and its parent company were bought for an undisclosed amount by a Dutch corporation.
InSex ceased production in 2005 and following pending litigation it reappeared as www.insexarchives.com which features content not deemed to be obscene by the US government. Insex and parent company Intersec Interactive Inc. is also credited with being one of the pioneers of live video streaming, which was quite exceptional at the time as it predated broadband.
Field of expertise, activities, structure & audience
The site was founded on two main types of content, both conventional BDSM porn and Live Feeds. The latter was considered groundbreaking at the time due to live fan interaction where they could make requests of the performers and interact directly with them through IRC & live chat feeds. Many of the live sessions were then edited down into recorded videos for later consumption by members. Outside of the live aspect of the productions, Insex’s claim to fame was the severity of the masochism depicted in their sessions with submissives.
Videos from Intersex included all aspects of standard BDSM lifestyle sessions such as various kinds of bondage with metal or rope, impact punishments, like flogging and whipping, humiliation play, roleplay, and more. It also featured what were considered more esoteric or underground acts such as needle play, electric stimulation, enemas, and urolagnia [aka, pee play or watersports.] These more extreme acts would later become the basis for the intense legal scrutiny the site eventually faced. While Intersex.com videos were sexual in nature, only very few included penetration by a male actor or handler. Most videos only included penetration by dildo’s, vibrators, and other sex toys.
