What is “Gender Identity”?
Gender Identity is the personal choice of an individual over whether they identify as a female, male, both or neither.
Personal Gender Identification
Gender Identity is largely based on the personal experience that one has. This experience is highly relevant, influential and pivotal to one’s perception, decision and response that one has over their personal identity. This can be in accordance with or in contrast to the gender identities that social norms dictate.
Most people have gender identities that are the same as their biological sex. Gender queer or non-conforming people are individuals whose gender identity contradicts the latter. Many people may have a differing gender identity or feeling inside than they portray outside.
It is said that an individual forms their own gender identity as early as 18 months to 3 years old and that the gender they choose to identify with can be manifested externally through distinctive behaviors.
At present, the spectrum of genders is becoming broader and broader by the minute. Many variations on traditional gender expression are now normalized or close to it. Continuously studying gender identity and expression with compassion, interest, and care will help evolve this further.
Respecting Gender Identity
Keeping an open mind and respecting other individual’s choices is imperative both in and outside of BDSM. The list of gender identities is vast, that getting to know each one of them is both an excellent new addition of knowledge and likewise a great way for people to get a better understanding of one another. However, fetishizing a gender identity is generally considered incorrect behavior and discouraged.
Discriminating people for being different or for standing out over the norms that society has been consistently following is already outdated and unbecoming at this day and age.
The BDSM community should openly accept all genders in as much as it houses a wide array of sexual kinks, interests, and acts.
Related Practices & Fetishes
Genderqueer people are individuals who are identified as neither male nor female, also known as non-binary. Many male submissives enjoy ‘sissification’ which is the practice of forced humiliation as submission. Bimboification is the process of turning an otherwise normal femme into a brainless slut as roleplay.
