The word fetish and it’s resulting desires come in almost infinite shapes and forms. It is generally defined by a form of abnormally intense desire, usually sexual in nature but not limited to traditional sexual objects, acts, or bodies. Fetishes can be extremely broad and widely recognized such as foot fetishism, attraction to women in lingerie, or having a fetish for watching people smoke. Or they can be extremely personal and limited to just a few people, these are also known as paraphilia’s.
Having a fetish for a particular person, thing, sexual act, or desire is perfectly normal! Many people have them without even realizing that it qualifies as a fetish. For example, being extremely attracted to large breasts, lingerie, or in the case of size queens large penises or dildo‘s. Fetishism is not strictly limited to BDSM lifestyle or culture but is often associated with it due to many extreme or off the beaten path like CBT, Enema’s, or Sploshing.
Fetishes have been long talked about throughout history in varying forms with one of the most famous examples being in legendary pervert Marquis de Sade’s book, “128 Days of Sodom.” In modern times the social stigma around having a fetish has dramatically decreased and almost normalized depending on your particular desire. Some fetishes have been the subject of mainstream documentaries such as Tickled, Sploshing by Vice, and Kink. Many consider TLC’s docu-series, “My Strange Obsession” as one of the most mainstream documentations and normalizations of microcosmic fetishes currently on air.
Figuring out one’s personal fetish is often the first step towards digging deeper into their sexuality. Depending on the particular fetish, it can often be the gateway into the world of BDSM, alternative sexual lifestyles, or simply a more fulfilling sex life. Unfortunately many people experience shame and anxiety in the face of their particular fetish. With the advent of the internet, forums, and message boards however, many people have been able to overcome this and ultimately have a more fulfilling and happy sex life.
