AnaÏs Nin, February 21, 1903, to January 14, 1977
Field of Expertise & Activities
Her works were mostly taken out from her diaries, which she prolifically wrote for six decades up until her death. AnaÏs is considered to be one of the finest female erotica writers during the time in which the realm of erotic literature is dominated by male writers.
AnaÏs started writing erotic literature to earn some money when she was younger. Her erotic novels were initially sold to an anonymous, private collector for a dollar a page. AnaÏs never intended to make her erotic writings available for the public. However, she later changed her mind in the early 1970s, which has cemented her place in pop culture and the literary world.
AnaÏs Nin was born in Neuilly, France. Her real name was Angela AnaÏs Juana Antolina Rosa Edelmira Nin y Culmell. Her father, Joaquin Nin, was a Cuban pianist and composer while her mother, Rosa Culmell, was a classically trained Cuban singer. AnaÏs spent her early years in Spain and Cuba. She then lived for about sixteen years in Paris, before settling down in the United States.
