What is Agalmatophilia?
Agalmatophilia is a form of paraphilia that involves sexual attraction to an inanimate object, usually statue, doll, mannequin or other similarly shaped objects. It comes from the Greek words agalma (statue) and philia (love).
What Triggers Object Fetishism?
Agalmatophilia is a part of a condition known as object sexuality having deep emotional and/or sexual attachments to specific inanimate objects or structures. Agalmatophiles may experience sexual arousal in different ways. Some people express such behavior through actual sexual contact with the inanimate object. Others are satisfied in having fantasies of a sexual encounter with the body-shaped object or watching encounters of such objects.
The thought of being transformed or transforming another into an object can also be arousing to people who have this paraphilia. Agalmatophiles may also experience sexual high just from the thought of being immobile, paralized, or losing control over one’s own body.
Common Expressions of Agalmatophiles
People with agalmatophilia may experience romantic attraction to a specific doll or statue. In some cases, agalmatophiles spend the rest of their lives with only the one statue. There are also cases when people are caught masturbating or having sex with statues in public. Men are more likely to engage in agalmatophilia fetishes.
Agalmatophilia can be extended to role-playing. An individual can pretend to be transformed into what appears to be a rubber doll or latex doll, or trapped within a statue displayed in a museum. Another form of agalmatophilia role-playing is the Japanese AV concept of Time Stop. As with all role-playing fetishes, agalmatophilia is harmless as long as both parties gave their consent.
Related Practices & Fetishes
Fantasies on being paralyzed or causing someone to be paralyzed may cross over to Hypno-fetishism and/or robot fetishism. Agalmatophiles who are more sexually attracted to dolls are known as human doll fetishist. There are also cases known as ‘pseudo-agalmatophilia’, which is usually observed in Master/slave relationships. The Master orders the slave to become a statue and prohibit any kind of movement while being fondled. Many Agalmatophiles also enjoy being turned into or assuming the roles of furniture or other pervertibles.
