A WOMAN has hit back at a man who labelled her "fat" when she rejected his advances on social media.
Joanne Barber, 22, from Swindon, received a message from a 42-year-old man called Ben who asked if she wanted to go out for a drink last week.
Joanne's admirer had noticed that they had a mutual friend and messaged her to say he thinks she's "gorgeous".
After Joanne ignored his first three messages, Ben pleaded: "I'm sure we can have loads of fun as long as you're not up your own a*** and think you're better than you are - that babe is the downfall of pretty girls."
Put off by his messages and the 20 year age gap, Joanne asked if she knew him before turning him down for the date.
Feeling hurt by the rejection, Ben then began his tirade of abuse - calling Joanne an "arrogant fat c***" who would "look rough as f**k without makeup."
Although Joanne tried to explain why she didn't want to go out with him, Ben then went on to accuse her of being a "cheap s***" and a "sad state".
In one message, he wrote: "You are stuck up and have an attitude problem. Probably why you're single.
"You turn down decent men for idiots. Fact."
Unable to reason with him, Joanne then shared screenshots of the messages on her Facebook page to warn other girls in the local area against him.
Joanne said: "I didn't know him beforehand. He was just a random guy who tried adding me. I deleted the add.
"We had mutual friends because he lives nearby but I deleted it because I didn't know him."
Joanne's Facebook post racked up more than 2,200 "likes" which resulted in Ben deleting his profile and messaging her from a different account to issue a grovelling apology.
She explained: "After I called him out, he messaged me from a different account he made because he deleted his Facebook saying I had ruined his life and it should be taken down.
"He just wan't getting it. He wasn't getting the point. He can't do this to girls. It's not okay. It's creepy and disgusting.
"After doing this to girls and going through his messages, I knew he was not a nice man. He's done it before and he's not going to stop doing it.
"I put it up as more of a deterrent and to teach him a lesson. He's 42 years old, grow up. I wouldn't expect this from a guy my age, let alone someone old enough to be my dad."
What's more, it wasn't long until Ben's parents were made aware of the disgusting messages - and they have now banned their son from using social media entirely.
Ben's dad said: "I'm sure it wasn't a pleasant experience [for Joanne].We have now taken all the media off him.
"He has no defence. It was done in a fit of drunken temper. It was done in a fit of irresponsibility. We realise that. We realise the severity of it.
"We have been in touch with the young lady and told her that we have taken all the social media off Ben even though he is 42 years of age.
Although he's apologised to Joanne, Ben claims some of her story has been "fabricated" - despite the fact that she has screenshots of the messages.
He commented: "It has been blown up to all proportions with me receiving threats, etc etc. That's all I will say on the matter. It has come across as a bit of a witch hunt to be fair."
